Early Bird

The R5 train to Thorndale at 2 p.m. was as packed as never before at this time of day. The girl who sat next to me said she snuck out of work early just to get home at a decent hour. Her friend waited for two and a half hours in line yesterday just to get from the Suburban Station to the 30th Street. I bet bike sales have gone up these days.

Train, People's Last Hope

The R5 express train to Philadelphia made an unscheduled stop at Overbrook's station this morning to pick up passengers whose only hope to get to the city was the regional train. A part-time Septa employee was telling another passenger that he also suffers from the strike, because he cannot move around the city and is limited to riding on a train, which is not as flexible and convenient as subway or bus.

Trapped on a Train

Comentators responded to Philadelphia Inquirer today's article, "SEPTA strike spreads; train fire adds to misery" by suggesting that the strikers are fired and new people who are truly willing to work are hired instead. People who commented on the article were frustrated because they had to wake up at 4 a.m. in order to make it to work on time, because they didn't make it on time, or because they didn't make it at all.
